I am an in- network provider with Carefirst. I am out-of-network with other insurance companies. This means that if you have Carefirst, and you have mental health benefits as a part of your benefit package, some percentage of your sessions may be covered. Whether or not they will also depends on whether you have a deductible to meet- so for clients that must meet a deductible before their benefits kick in, you will need to pay the entire fee up front until your deductible is met (the amount you pay reduces the deductible). Once your deductible is met, your insurance will kick in and you’ll only be paying a co-pay/ co-insurance. If you don’t have a deductible, you’ll just pay your co-pay from the beginning.

If I am out-of-network with your insurance, you will need to pay the entire session fee out of pocket. I will then give you a superbill showing what you paid so that you can submit this to your insurance company for reimbursement (provided you have out-of-network benefits). Out-of-network benefits means that if you choose a provider that is not a part of your health insurance company, your insurance will pay a portion of that fee, but not as much as they would if you had chosen a provider within their network. Some plans include out-of-network benefits, some do not.

In either case, you will know what your fee/copay will be before your first appointment.

I do not accept insurance for couples therapy. Insurance typically covers individual therapy and family therapy, but typically does not cover couples’ therapy. I will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement if you need one.

Missed Appointments

If you are going to cancel an appointment, you need to give at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a missed appointment fee. The missed appointment fee is equal to the full cost of a session (not your copay!). Rescheduling with less than 24 hours notice is still a canceled appointment, and will still generate a fee- because you are canceling one appointment to schedule another. As a therapist, I am reserving the full hour of your appointment just for you; unlike other medical practitioners, I cannot overbook my schedule in case someone cancels last minute. So please- don’t forget to give a heads up if you will need to reschedule!
